OTHER PUBLISHING is a chosen family of six artists and designers working cooperatively as a multi-format internal design studio and publisher founded in 2018.
Our goal is to create a loving, accountable, encouraging space for one another to keep making things that make us excited and happy for ourselves and our community. To encourage one another to rest when we need to. It is a space for us as friends and family to have a space of our own to make outside of capitalism, no leaders, no end goals.
OTHER PUBLISHING abandons binary for bliss. We embrace and honor the individual quality of each of our own works and the works of those we collaborate with. All of our works do not exist in the same form or image, nor do they have to. We see ourselves as facilitators of pressuring existing conditions to shift and change: embracing the chimerica in our solidarity, and pushing one another to question
commonality and purpose. We pay tribute to the higher principles of narrative alchemy, and we
believe in taking agency of our visual mythologies. To ensure our loved ones understand they are never disposable. All people and creations have a purpose and place in the heart and handle of the universe. To never have or be an answer, but a be resource and ask questions. To subvert and survive
and keep ourselves accountable around mechanisms within capitalism, the brutality of white supremacy, anti-blackness,and colorism, and to stay critical of ourselves, our intentions, our executions, and the systems we work around and within.
To work with clarity with our energy and visions: marshaling chaos for utopia.
I AM THE DIVINE BLADE
PROMISED TO MY ANCESTORS
TO LIVE FOREVER
TO DROWN FOREVER
FEVER DREAM ETERNITY
To never work towards timelessness, but the destruction of linear time and work forced to exist within binaries. To burn down the “fundamental.” Recognizing no taboos, we wish to be dropped in an ocean of a limitless world. To destroy law. To keep safe and put pleasure and survival as the function of our QTPOC family that we have formed. To elevate transitioning bodies in a continual drift. To reclaim the exploitation and vulgarity used against us. To work towards new modes of embodiment and identification: objects as divine and holy.
OUR MODEL:
Currently our model is to have profits from fairs, merch, and
online sales go fully back into running OTHER PUBLISHING.
Frequent expenses consist of printing costs, new projects,
materials, tabling fees, travel costs for fairs, transportation,
paying collaborators, etc. All members of OP are committed
to never making individual profit of our work through OP!
